Futures contract ticker codes are an abbreviated form of naming futures contracts with their respective contract month and year. Contract ticker codes can sometimes be confusing as different Exchanges and different platforms use their own unique conventions. However, there is a generally accepted convention to follow the order by using the ticker symbol followed by the delivery or expiration month and then the year.
To add to the complexity, the futures delivery month codes are also uniquely used in the futures market. The delivery month codes are standard single letter codes as displayed below in Table 1
