Moving Average (MA) is a stock indicator commonly used in technical analysis. The purpose of calculating the moving average of a stock is to help smooth out price data by creating a continuously updated average price.

By calculating the moving average, the effect of random, short-term fluctuations in the stock price over a certain period of time can be reduced.

Simple moving averages (SMAs) use a simple arithmetic average of the stock price over a period of time, while exponential moving averages (EMAs) place more emphasis on current prices compared to older prices within that time period.

Investors can choose various different time periods to calculate the moving average based on their trading objectives. Shorter moving averages are usually used for short-term trading, while longer moving averages are more suitable for long-term investors. Although it is impossible to predict the future movement of a particular stock, the use of moving averages can help traders make better forecasts.
